Everyone who entered the Stateline Casino on Saturday night got lei’d.
In
celebration of the second anniversary as owners of the Stateline,
brothers Kurt and Kent Slight threw a party for their customers.
It was a Hawaiian themed luau and as such patrons were encouraged to wear their favorite tropical shirts.
There were even a couple of ladies who donned the traditional grass skirts.
And
everyone who walked through the door was given a Hawaiian lei with
careful emphasis placed on matching the color of that lei to whatever
shirt was being worn.
Each person walking in was also given a drawing ticket for prizes that were given away throughout the night.
There
were so many prizes given out that everyone took home some kind of
goody from the event and many were awarded multiple gifts.
The
Slight brothers gave away dozens of tee shirts, visors and hats, the
usual fare for door prizes, but they did not stop there.
There
were some very nice golf shirts handed out as well as a beer cooler, a
set of poker chips, a huge umbrella, neck ties, sets of silverware and
even some Jagermeister underwear.
When it comes to giving back to their customers, the Slight brothers know what they are doing.
The evening began with a bar-b-cue that was free to all in attendance.
The dance floor was covered with tables offering up not only the obligatory hamburgers and hot dogs, but pulled pork as well.
For
more than an hour the platters of food were gobbled up by hungry
patrons and each time a platter would dwindle and start to look empty,
a new one was brought out to take its place.
Any one who left that night without a full belly just hadn’t been trying hard enough.
And if all that were not enough, the brothers even offered up live music for dancing.
Live
music is regular part of the Saturday night routine at the Stateline,
but for this party the owners brought in a very special act.
The
band “Most Wanted” was booked for the night, proving that Kurt and Kent
would spare no expense to make this night a celebration to remember.
“Most Wanted” hails from the Cedar City area in Utah and they have played the Stateline on a couple of occasions in the past.
But this was a different “Most Wanted” than anyone had ever seen before.
The band has added a ton of new equipment since the last time they played here and for this occasion, they brought it all.
Including some new lights.
The
result was an evening of top notch classic rock and country from a band
that, as band leader Derek Adams said, “Loves to play the Stateline.”
“We
really enjoy coming down and playing here,” Adams said, “the people
here are just great. They love to have fun and that always makes it fun
for us. And the owners here, they are the best. They have always been
very good to us.”
Adams plays the drums in this four piece group and handles most of the lead vocals.
He
is joined on stage by guitarist Michael Griffin who brought an array of
guitars for the one night stand (all of them red) and bassist Phil
Moore, who is not only a solid bottom end for the group but also serves
as comic relief throughout the night.
But
the star of this show is keyboardist and fiddle player Leslie Adams who
nearly brought down the house with her rendition of Charlie Daniels’
“The Devil Went Down To Georgia.”
After a night like this it is easy to see that the new owners of the Stateline genuinely care about their customers.
And it is easy to see that the feeling is mutual.
One patron who wished to remain anonymous put it like this:
“We
are so proud of what these guys have done with this bar in the two
years since they bought it,” he said, adding, “they have made some much
needed improvements, added the stage and dance floor and as you can
see, they really want their customers to have a good time. It’s just a
great place to come now, and it’s a great place for tourists to come.
It really sends the tourists home with a good feeling about the local
scene in Mesquite.”
Now it is back to business as usual for the Stateline, and that means Karaoke on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Wednesday nights is reserved for dart tournaments and of course there will be live music every Saturday night.
Kurt
Slight has indicated that there will be something special planned for
the Fourth of July, and next year they will do it all again,
celebrating year number three.
It is safe to assume that by next year, the Slight brothers will need to bring in a few more prizes to give away.
With a whole year ahead, you can bet their clientele will only continue to grow and grow.
