Michael Griffin, living in Cedar City, Utah, grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. He started his passion for music at age 8 when he began taking piano lessons. However, by age 12, his love for the guitar overpowered the piano and became the object of his focus. During his youth he entertained all over with his father, renowned artist, Lynn Griffin, first in the Salt Lake City area, and later, in southern Utah when the Griffin family moved to Escalante, Utah. Michael provided the musical foundation to his father's entertaining lead playing and stage antics. Michael has played with various bands, including Crossroads and Gabe Miller. He has formed various groups including Purple Sage and LoneHawk. Michael has said that Most Wanted has been his favorite lineup, due to the great band chemistry and musicianship. On stage, he is referred to as "The Mannequin", but Phil has been able to bring out a little, just a little, of actual movement in him, as shocking as that is to those who know him. Phil and Michael are now known as the "Most Wanted Dancers". Michael's lead playing has a lot of blues influence. He works to bring enough fretwork to add a little excitement without taking away from the song. His versatility adds to the band, from playing subtle rhythms in a country ballad, to searing leads in rock standards. |
